Safety is the most critical decision you can make without feeling about. Walk-through all preparation for any sailing journey.
Knot Tying
Since the beginning, all sailors were required to tie knots, and today is no different. We will start with simple knots and work with you up to the Monkey's Fist. You will gain the understanding of which knot to use in different situations. Learn fast, we will put your skills to use during your adventure.
Sailing
Your education continues with hands-on sailing. You will build confidence as you sail the boat on all points of sail, including upwind and downwind skills. You’ll be driving the boat and trimming the sails. Under the right conditions, it feels like your hair is on fire.
Navigation
Gain skills with hands on dead reckoning and the use of electronics by plotting the courses we will be using to sail the Channel Islands safely. You will gain an understanding of the importance of paper charts as you also utilize electronics by entering waypoints and following our progress with GPS.
Weather
Friend and sometimes foe, knowing how to read and understand weather is crucial to all passages. By the end of our adventure, you will leave with a solid understanding of how to read weather charts and utilize the important information from the latest weather app technology available today.
Anchoring
You will learn how to check and set your anchoring and get hands-on experience both driving and running the windless and using a mooring ball. We make anchoring simple and will show you how. You’ll learn the right type of anchor to use in different conditions. "Fathoms", "Scope" and "Snubber" will be you newest sailor vocabulary to use at the bar.
